Math
Math 6
Math 6 is a comprehensive, engaging course with a focus on problem-based learning. This
course will cover all Grade 6 standards. Students study ratio and rate, learn to divide fractions by
fractions, extend their understanding of numbers to include negative numbers, and understand
and use variables.
Math 6/7
Math 6/7 is an accelerated course that will cover the majority of Grade 6 standards and about
half of the Grade 7 standards by carefully compacting and aligning learning goals. The Math 6/7
course introduces students to many of the big ideas that are a cornerstone of middle school
mathematics and beyond. Students study ratio and rate, learn to divide fractions by fractions,
extend their understanding of numbers to include negative numbers, and understand and use
variables. This course is intended to put students on a path to take Integrated 1 (a high school
level course) during their 8th grade year.
Math 7
Math 7 is a comprehensive, engaging course that covers all Grade 7 standards. In Math 7,
students extend concepts of rates and ratios to work with equivalent ratios and proportional
relationships. Students expand their understanding of fractions to include all rational numbers
and become comfortable working with and comparing expressions and equations. Throughout it
all, students solve compelling mathematical and real world problems.
Math 7/8
Math 7/8 is an accelerated course that will cover about half of the Grade 7 standards and all of
the Grade 8 standards by carefully compacting and aligning learning goals. Students complete
the work of middle school in this course. Students work with linear equations in one and two
variables, deepen their understanding of proportional relationships and express linear
relationships using equations, tables, and graphs. Students encounter irrational numbers and end
the year with study of the Pythagorean Theorem. Students who successfully complete this
course in 7th grade will be ready to enroll in Integrated 1 (a high school course) in 8th grade.
Math 8
Math 8 is a comprehensive, engaging course that covers all Grade 8 standards. In this course,
students tackle exciting new ideas and concepts in preparation for the next level of mathematics.
They extend earlier understandings of proportional relationships to study linear relationships and
work with linear equations in one and two variables. Among other things, they are also introduced
to the idea of functions and have their first encounter with irrational numbers.
