6th G6th Grade Orchestra
6th Grade Orchestra introduces and refines foundational music performance skills. The inspiring
curriculum helps students develop instrumental techniques and artistic accomplishment.
Students participate in two mandatory evening concerts annually, with regular field trips, social
outings, and team-building activities. At-home practice is expected, and new students are
encouraged to join and enjoy the many opportunities within the orchestra program.
Prerequisites: 0–1 year of playing experience. New beginners should contact their school’s
music director for details.
Schools offered:
BCS: 6th grade (2 days/week, all year)
Berkshire: 6th grade (every other day)
Derby: 6th grade (every other day)
7th Grade Orchestra
7th Grade Orchestra builds on basic music skills such as tone, rhythm, and technical fluency.
The curriculum supports measurable instrumental growth and artistic development. Students
perform in two mandatory evening concerts annually and have opportunities for ensemble and
chamber music performances. Field trips, social outings, and team-building activities enhance
the experience. At-home practice is expected, and new students are welcome.

8th Grade Orchestra
8th Grade Orchestra meets daily, fostering significant musical growth. The curriculum focuses
on advanced instrumental technique and artistic accomplishment. Students perform in at least
two mandatory evening concerts and participate in MSBOA Festival, ensemble, and chamber
music settings. Field trips, social outings, leadership training, and team-building activities are
integral to the program. At-home practice is expected, and new students are encouraged to join.
