Band
6th Grade Band
6th Grade Band is a fun, engaging class where students refine foundational music performance
skills. Students will develop instrumental technique and artistic accomplishment through an
inspiring curriculum. Participation includes two mandatory evening concerts per year, with
regular field trips, social outings, and team-building activities. At-home practice is expected, and
students new to band are welcome.
Prerequisites: 0–1 year of playing experience. New beginners should contact their school’s
music director for guidance.
Schools offered:
BCS: 6th grade (2 days/week, all year)
Berkshire: 6th grade (every other day)
Derby: 6th grade (every other day)
7th Grade Band
7th Grade Band helps students build on their music skills, focusing on tone, rhythm, and
technical fluency. Students will achieve instrumental technique and artistic growth while
participating in two required evening concerts annually. Additional opportunities include
ensemble and chamber music performances, field trips, and team-building activities. At-home
practice is expected, and new band students are encouraged to join.
Prerequisites: 1–2 years of playing experience. New beginners should contact their school’s
music director for guidance.

Derby: 7th grade (all year course)
8th Grade Band
8th Grade Band meets daily, fostering significant musical growth as a performing ensemble.
Students will refine their technique and artistic skills through an inspiring curriculum.
Participation includes at least two mandatory evening concerts, MSBOA Festival performances,
and opportunities in chamber music. Field trips, social outings, and leadership activities are
integral to the program. At-home practice is expected, and new students are welcome.
Prerequisites: 2–3 years of playing experience. New beginners should contact their school’s
music director for guidance.
